Amy Deckelbaum recently finished her first year of graduate school where she is pursuing a Juris Doctorate at the George Washington School of Law and a Master's Degree at the Johns Hopkins' Nitze School of Advanced International Studies. She hopes to use her education to pursue a career in international law. Amy's prior work experience includes a year and a half at the International Republican Institute, a nonpartisan, non-profit democracy building organization. There her portfolio consisted of parliamentary strengthening programs in Mongolia and programs focused on election monitoring and increased political participation in Bangladesh. She has also interned for the State Department's Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor's Office for the Promotion of Human Rights and Democracy. Amy became interested in refugee issues when, in 2003, she traveled to Australia to research how national policies affect women seeking asylum. Amy graduated cum laude from Northwestern University and holds a Bachelor of Science in Education and Social Policy.
